NASF sends white paper with recommendations to Obama transition team

NASF has developed a “Presidential Transition White Paper” that outlines four priority areas for the new administration to address when president-elect Barack Obama takes office in January. State Foresters recommend the creation of a framework for sustainable forests to enhance cooperation between federal, state, tribal, and local governments and private landowners; targeted federal funding to support state and private forestry programs; a fire suppression funding fix to deal with emergency wildland fires; and forest energy and climate initiatives that capitalize on forests’ role in producing sustainable energy and mitigating climate change.
