NASF and ACWA submit comments to EPA on discharges from forest roads

NASF and the Association of Clean Water Administrators submitted comments in a joint letter today supporting Environmental Protection Agency`s notice of intent (NOI) to revise stormwater regulations to specify that a Clean Water Act (CWA) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit is not required for stormwater discharges from logging roads under Phase I of the stormwater program, and to further study the forest roads discharges under Phase II.

UPDATE. Next week, the Supreme Court is expected to release their decision on whether to rehear the 9th Circuit Decision, which found that certain logging roads are point sources subject to NPDES permitting requirements. NASF continues to pursue a legislative fix with others in the broad forestry community. Stay tuned for further updates.
