Nine individuals honored at 2016 NASF Annual Meeting in Savannah.
SAVANNAH, Ga.—The National Association of State Foresters today presented achievement awards to nine individuals who have made outstanding contributions in wildland fire protection, urban and community forestry, forest management and overall leadership. The awards were presented at the 2016 NASF annual meeting in Savannah, Georgia.
This year’s award winners are individuals and organizations who partner with state forestry agencies in protecting and managing the nation’s state and private forest resources. They were nominated by NASF members and their partners for the work they have accomplished to promote, support and strengthen the forestry community nationwide.
“Every year we are inspired by the achievements of so many leaders and partners in the forestry community, who are working to ensure the future sustainability of our nation’s trees and forests,” said Wisconsin State Forester Paul DeLong and President of the National Association of State Foresters. “The individuals we’re honoring today were selected by a team of current and former State Foresters who recognize the great work that these nine awardees have accomplished to advance national goals for America’s forests.”
The 2016 honorees are:
- Linda Casey: James Hubbard Lifetime Achievement Award
- Robert Bonnie: Michael Buck Outstanding Service Award for Forest Public Policy
- Steve Frye: Pete Anderson Current Achievement Award for Fire Protection
- Donald Mansius: Ken Arney Current Achievement Award for Forest Resource Management
- Alix Rogstad: Steven Scott Current Achievement Award for Urban Forestry
- Kemba Shakur and Urban Releaf: Steven Scott Current Achievement Award for Urban Forestry
- Paul Johnson: Leah MacSwords Current Achievement Award for Communications
- Jan Davis: Jeff Jahnke Current Achievement Award for Leadership
- Faith Campbell: John Shannon Current Achievement Award for Partnerships
Each of the NASF awards is named for a former state forester who was active in the identified state and private forestry subject area.
