After 40 years, the Utah State Forester announces retirement

Dick Buehler, the Utah State Forester and  Director of the State Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, has announced his retirement from the agency.  He will step down on December 13. Buehler started his career in 1973 as a Boating Ranger and “Second Man” at East Canyon State Park.  He moved over to FFSL the same year.  His career there included law enforcement, wildfire investigation, deputy director and finally director and State Forester.

“This has not been an easy decision as I look back over four decades of coming to work in a career that I have loved,” said Buehler.  “I must say that I would do it all over again if I had the chance.”

Dick will be succeded by Brian Cottam, currently the Deputy Director for the State Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands. We wish Dick a wonderful retirement and we welcome Brian to NASF!
