House appoints conferees for Farm Bill negotiations

This week the House named conferees to participate in Farm Bill negotiations with previously appointed Senate conferees. The appointment clears the way for the two chambers to officially meet and begin work to reconcile differences in the House and Senate Farm Bills. The 2008 Farm Bill expired at the end of federal fiscal year 2013, however members are working to approve a new 5-year bill before the end of the current calendar year, when commodity support programs would revert to 1949 law. NASF joined our partners in the Forests in the Farm Bill this week in urging Congress to pass a long-term Farm Bill that ensures funding for key forestry programs.
