WASHINGTON—The National Association of State Foresters offers its congratulations to Monica Lear for her appointment as director of the USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station in Ft. Collins, Colorado.
“As the District of Columbia state forester from 2010 to 2014 and someone who truly understands the value of cross-boundary forest management and research, we know Monica will contribute to the essential activities that protect and promote the health and productivity of all America’s trees and forests, regardless of ownership,” said Greg Josten, NASF president and South Dakota state forester. “State foresters look forward to working with Monica in her new capacity and supporting her work to integrate research across boundaries and management areas.”
Prior to serving as the acting director of the Rocky Mountain Research Station (beginning last June when her predecessor John Phipps was appointed deputy chief of State and Private Forestry), Monica served as the associate deputy chief of Research and Development, as well as the director of Forest Health Protection in State and Private Forestry. She holds a doctorate and a master’s degree in plant health from Louisiana State University.
