Tell the Story of Forestry in Colorado.  The Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS) is seeking a creative and collaborative Forestry Communications Specialist to help share the story of Colorado’s forests, communities, and wildfire mitigation efforts. In this role, you will create engaging content for social media, websites, publications, videos, podcasts, and more while translating technical forestry and scientific information into clear, compelling stories for the public. This position works closely with forestry experts, writers, videographers, and partners across the agency to highlight forest health, restoration projects, and community outreach efforts throughout Colorado. Location: Fort Collins, CO
Salary Range: $65,000 – $70,000 (based on experience)

What You’ll Do:

  • Create engaging content for websites, social media, newsletters, publications, podcasts, and other communication platforms
  • Translate technical forestry and scientific information into clear, audience-friendly messaging
  • Conduct interviews and research to develop stories and communication materials
  • Coordinate content development and review processes with internal and external partners
  • Capture photographs and video at field projects, events, and outreach activities
  • Support and coordinate agency social media content and posting
  • Ensure online content meets accessibility standards
  • Contribute creative ideas and storytelling angles aligned with agency priorities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in journalism, marketing, media communications or a similar communications program. Human dimensions of natural resources, forestry or other agency-aligned degrees, along with a background or experience in communications, also will be considered.
  • Two years of experience in content creation for various audiences as a professional writer or editor, video producer, multimedia producer, website author, audio producer, social media manager or a combination of those
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (i.e., Word and Outlook) and Adobe Creative Suite (i.e., Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Premiere Pro).
  • Valid Driver’s license
