Position Summary: The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) is seeking a Director, Urban and Community Forestry US to lead and expand its urban forestry initiatives across the United States. This full-time role will oversee implementation of the SFI Urban and Community Forest Sustainability Standard and manage a $5 million U.S. Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry grant program. The Director will work closely with municipalities, universities, corporations, and community partners to advance sustainable urban forest management, provide technical assistance to grant recipients, and strengthen collaborative partnerships that support healthy and resilient communities.
The ideal candidate will bring at least five years of urban forestry experience, expertise in grant management, and strong relationships within the urban forestry sector. Candidates should also possess sector credentials such as ISA Certified Arborist, ISA Certified Urban Forest Professional, and/or ISA Board-Certified Master Arborist certification, along with experience managing federal or state grant programs. This position serves as SFI’s subject matter expert on urban and community forestry and will help drive strategic program growth, outreach, standards implementation, and stakeholder engagement nationwide. Salary range is $115,000–$130,000 plus comprehensive benefits.
