The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Forestry is recruiting to fill a Wildland Fire Training Officer. This position leads the division’s Fire, Law Enforcement (LE), and Incident Management Team (IMT) training program to ensure that division staff are able to meet the qualification standards set for their position and the division’s high standard for safety and preparedness. This position leads policy development, program coordination, management, and evaluation for all training programming, partnership development, and curriculum evaluation related to fire, law enforcement, and IMT learning. This position is the statewide technical expert for the division in learning and professional development related to Fire, LE, and IMT training, leading the division through leadership, innovation, adaptation, best practices, and transfer of knowledge. The Wildland Fire Training Officer serves as the main point of coordination for the national Incident Qualification System (IQS) and is a key internal and external consultant for staff, leadership, inter-divisional teams, and partner groups. This position maintains cutting-edge knowledge and expertise by staying abreast of current research and maintaining an effective professional network. The customer base for this position is division staff who require Fire, LE, and/or IMT training, as well as colleagues throughout the Department and key partner groups such as other educational organizations and institutions, including corresponding programs in other state and federal agencies.
