Position Name: Conservation Forester – Wildland Urban Interface (North Platte, NE)

The Nebraska Forest Service (NFS) provides technical and financial assistance to clients across Nebraska, emphasizing rural forestry, community forestry, forest fuels reduction, forest health, forest products utilization, and fire protection. Our mission is to enrich the lives of Nebraskan’s by protecting, restoring, and utilizing Nebraska’s tree and forest resources. NFS is seeking enthusiastic, qualified applicants to join our team of dedicated staff working towards improving the health, resiliency, and sustainability of Nebraska’s trees and forests. Providing direct, technical assistance to landowners and agencies related to the position focus area, the forester will play a key role in providing the resources necessary for clients to achieve their forestry and wildfire mitigation goals.

Position Focus Area: The forester will work in southwest Nebraska to reduce wildfire risk by designing and overseeing the implementation of fuels reduction projects on public and private lands. These activities include conducting site visits with landowners, performing fieldwork for forest data collection (GPS, GIS, forest measurement hand tools), developing management plans, and administering financial assistance programs. The forester will also work within local partnerships with agencies and communities to identify wildfire mitigation needs and pursue future program opportunities. Based on experience and qualifications, this person will also be able to assist with local wildfire response. The person will coordinate local forestry training and workshops and develop communication materials. The position will be located 10 miles SW of North Platte, NE.
