Intermediate and senior-level foresters spend a lot of time in the field suppressing wildfires, setting up and administering timber sales, implementing silvicultural prescriptions, conducting forest inventory, assisting private landowners, and identifying native plant communities.  Intermediate and senior foresters also spend some time in the office, leading and implementing program and subprogram work for their area including the wildfire, timber, silviculture, lands, roads, invasive species, forest inventory, private forest management, forest health, enforcement, and ecological classification programs.  Program assignments vary and are subject to change.  Contact the supervisor to find out more about a specific job or location.

During fire season foresters must work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays and occasionally have to travel and work overnight to assist neighboring areas.

Applicants must also possess knowledge of forest management and policies; have excellent leadership, organization, and human relations skills; the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly; the ability to resolve conflicts; have an unrestricted driver’s license; and the ability to become a State-certified Forest Officer.
