The State of Alaska Division of Forestry & Fire Protection seeks a professional forester to join our statewide Forest Health Program that assesses and promotes forest health in Alaska. The Forest Health Program is focused on priority forest health projects and mapping related to forest health surveys, management, education, and technology improvements throughout State, municipal, and privately-owned forests in the state. In this position, you will conduct projects to assess, promote, and improve forest health conditions in Alaska and provide forest entomology and pathology technical assistance to DOF field foresters and other land managers, including diagnosing forest health issues, providing mitigation recommendations, surveying and monitoring for native and invasive threats, developing new survey and management technologies, and conducting outreach. Specific duties generally include identifying plants, insects, diseases, or abiotic stressors; development, coordination, data analysis, and reporting for projects or studies; specimen processing and curation; and interacting with and providing information to stakeholders and cooperators.
