The undersigned organizations strongly support the US Forest Service Forest Inventory Analysis Program (FIA) and urge Congress to fully fund the program in FY 2007 at $73.4 million. FIA is the only national inventory system that delivers current and consistent information about the status, condition and trends of America's forestland, crossing all ownerships.

Background:
Currently there is no consistent, uniform format or process for collecting wildland fire occurrence data among federal, state, and local jurisdictions. The Federal Wildland Fire Policy requires the federal fire agencies to develop a common format for their fire reports. To date, they have made little progress and continue to rely on separate, independent systems.
