Representatives of NASF often send letters to Congress, the USDA Forest Service and other groups urging their support of important forestry issues. The association will also occasionally sign on to a coalition of other like-minded groups working to effect change in forest policy. Below are the most recent of those letters.

Dear Under Secretary Sherman and Chief Tidwell,

We're writing to thank you for your efforts to promote the use of wood in green building construction and request your continued support on this important issue. Specifically, we ask that as you allocate research funding to Forest Service research units, you provide an additional $6 million above the fiscal year 2011 level to the US Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory to support wood products life cycle assessment and other green building research.

The undersigned organizations, representing millions of members across the country, urge the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction to reject disproportionate cuts to farm bill programs as a part of any deficit reduction plan. While we understand the need to have the farm bill contribute to the task of finding at least $1.2 trillion in cuts, farm, food and rural spending should not be asked to do more than its fair share.
