AL State Forester elected to SFI external panel

THE SFI External Review Panel, a group of independent experts who provide external oversight of the SFI forest certification program, has elected four new members. They include Linda S. Casey, state forester with the Alabama Forestry Commission; Deborah Gangloff, executive director of American Forests; Jon W. Gassett, commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources; and Robin Morgan, assistant director for forest management in the Northeastern Area, State and Private Forestry, USDA Forest Service.

WFLC selects new officers

The Western Forestry Leadership Coalition (WFLC) selected new officers to their Board of Directors earlier this month at their Western Regional Meeting. Pete Anderson, Nevada State Forester, and Rick Cables, US Forest Service Rocky Mountain Regional Forester, will co-lead the eight-person Executive Board and their 34 members for 2009. Representing the Research Stations, Bov Eav, USFS Pacific Northwest Research Station Director, will serve as the lead Station Director.

Rowdabaugh named director of DOI's Office of Wildland Fire Coordination

Arizona State Forester and former NASF President Kirk Rowdabaugh has been selected to serve as the Interior Department's Director for the Office of Wildland Fire Coordination. Rowdabaugh comes to Interior with more than 20 years of federal fire and land management experience. He began his career as a firefighter in 1970 in southern New Mexico, and has held positions with Interior's Bureau of Land Management and the USDA Forest Service that have afforded him a solid background in fire management.

DE State Forester appointed as Acting Secretary of Agriculture

Effective September 15, Delaware's Secretary of Agriculture Michael T. Scuse becomes Governor Ruth Ann Minner's new chief of staff; the governor has appointed State Forester Austin Short as Acting Secretary of Agriculture. Short joined the Delaware Department of Agriculture in 1992 as a service forester. In January 1995, he became a Senior Resource Planner with the Department's Planning Section and then State Forester in August 1995.
