Site-Level Program Manager, Minnesota Forest Resources Council

The Minnesota Forest Resources Council (MFRC), a state chartered and funded entity that advises the Governor and public agencies on sustainable forest policies and practices, is seeking an individual to manage its Site-Level Program. The position provides leadership and technical expertise to the forest resources management community on (1) voluntary site-level timber harvesting and forest management guideline development and revision and (2) monitoring the application of those guidelines on all forest ownerships statewide. The person in this position is also expected to become involved with research that helps further these roles. This includes working with university, state and federal researchers and specialists concerned with forest management.

The Site-Level Program Manager develops and administers an annual budget of approximately $200,000+; provides oversight and strategic direction to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources' guideline implementation monitoring program; and serves as resource staff to the MFRC Executive Director and the MFRC.

The Site-Level Program Manager must draw upon knowledge gained by formal education and experience to identify and solve complex forest management problems. This knowledge must encompass the fields of forest resource management, forest soil science, and forest hydrology. A PhD in one of the following fields is required: Forest Soils, Soil Science (with an emphasis in forest soils), or Forest Hydrology (with a strong background in forest soils). The incumbent must have at least two years of post-graduate experience in forest management and/or applied research, the ability to incorporate research results into forest practices, notably in silviculture and harvesting, and strong communication skills. A bachelors and/or masters in forestry and previous experience leading diverse groups of stakeholders are desirable.
