WFLC seeks Program Manager

The Western Forestry Leadership Coalition via State and Private Forestry, Rocky Mountain Region will soon be advertising a GS-401 11/12 Biologist to be located in at the Colorado State Bureau of Land Management Office, Lakewood, Colorado. This position serves as the Program Manager for the WFLC staff and primarily provides policy and program analysis for the activities of the 34 Coalition members (7 western USFS Regional Foresters, 17 State and 6 Territorial Foresters, 3 USFS Research Directors and the USFS Director of the Forest Products Laboratory).

THE POSITION:

The Western Forestry Leadership Coalition (WFLC) is a federal-state partnership dealing with western forest policy, communications and program issues. The Program Manager position serves as a staff assistant and has responsibilities for program management for both the Forest Service and State Foresters to plan, develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate program, policy and strategic issues for the WFLC including:

  • The National Fire Plan and 10-year comprehensive strategy;
  • Farm Bill and Healthy Forests initiative;
  • Climate change; invasive species; biomass; water quality and quantity;
  • communities and human dimensions; and,
  • western, regional and national initiatives, including the State & Private Forestry Redesign.

 

The incumbent will coordinate activities of various task forces established to address emerging issues and conduct policy review and analysis. This Program Manager is also expected to seek and nurture relationships and build coalitions with partners in pursuit of western forestry goals. Other duties may include budget, data and information analyses that will be compiled and used to improve performance, determine prioritization and strengthen accountability of programs and policies. The Program Manager position will be called upon to assist in various outreach and communications efforts.
