NASF Resolution No. 1989-3: Trees to Reduce Global Warming

WHEREAS: trees represent a valuable national resource and produce both environmental and economic benefits to society; and
WHEREAS: trees in both rural and urban forests can contribute positive benefits to the environment by reducing the effects of global warming; and
WHEREAS: the benefits trees provide can be enhanced by increasing forestation, and improving forest management through regeneration, harvesting, and long-term use of the wood products; and
WHEREAS: cooperative efforts between the U.S. Forest Service and National Association of State Foresters currently exists to increase forest resource management through the delivery of technical assistance to both rural and urban landowners; and
WHEREAS: coordination between the U.S. forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters is the most effective and efficient means of improving program delivery to conserve and develop forestland ecosystems through efforts such as the Stewardship and Urban Forestry Initiatives;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the National Association of State Foresters encourages the U.S. Forest Service to continue to work with state forestry agencies to improve forestry technical assistance delivery systems for the overall benefit of our environment; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the National Association of State Foresters encourages the continuing close cooperation between our organizations on all programs designed to enhance our environment through the use of trees; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Chief of the U.S. Forest Service and each State Forester.
