AF&PA SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY INITIATIVE

WHEREAS: The members of the American Forest and Paper Association (AF&PA) have developed Sustainable Forestry Principles and Implementation Guidelines, known as the Sustainable Forestry Initiative; and

WHEREAS: The initiative recognizes the importance of AF&PA members making a public commitment to continuous improvement of forest management in the U.S.; and

WHEREAS: This initiative emphasizes the importance of working cooperatively with State Foresters, other members of the forestry community, and existing forestry assistance programs; and

WHEREAS: It is the objective of this initiative to improve the management of all forestlands in the United States;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that NASF applauds the proposed AF&PA Sustainable Forestry Initiative, and encourages further dialogue with NASF leading to a final accord.
