NASF Resolution No. 1996-8: Forest Health

Relating to Forest Health

WHEREAS, the NASF recognizes there are serious forest health problems facing the nation; and

WHEREAS, comprehensive aggressive action has been lacking to address this problem; and

WHEREAS, the public has been lead to believe that salvage is the only forest health tool. Such confusion is not conducive to resolving our serious forest health problems; and

WHEREAS, the Forest Service has been drafting such a forest health policy since October, 1995 with extensive input from state foresters, other federal agencies and numerous interested parties;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the NASF recommends the Secretary of Agriculture support the Chief of the Forest Service in finalizing and issuing the Forest Health Policy in order to expedite cooperative actions by the Forest Service and states in accomplishing forest health objectives.
