NASF Resolution No. 1997-5: Urban and Community Forests Throughout The United States
Posted on Thursday, September 18, 1997Inventory and Assessment of Urban and Community Forests Throughout the United States
Situation: Urban and community forests represent a major component contributing to the quality of life within our communities. The practice of Urban and Community Forestry requires an understanding of the many complexities interacting in the management of tree systems within our communities.
Understanding our urban and community forests requires an analysis of base line information offered through inventory and assessments of these forests.
Currently no systematic, coordinated, comprehensive approach exists to guide the collection of inventory and assessment of information regarding these forests.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the National Association of State Foresters recommends that criteria and standards be established for a nationwide initiative to periodically gather comprehensive information relating to the inventory and assessment of our urban and community forests.
And that this same organization takes a leadership role in development and implementation of a programmed approach on how to deal with the needs identified in the above initiative.
