Severe storms can be a positive event for forests
Initially you may think that storms have only negative effects on forests, but often the opposite is true. Storms are natural disturbances that break up the uniformity of the forest, creating gaps and patchworks so new species can become established.
In short, plants and animals take advantage of the new microhabitats formed by a storm’s destruction.
