Ohio's Trees to Textbooks donates 2 million

Officials with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Forestry presented a check to Washington-Nile (West) School District along with County Commissioners Cathy Coleman and Mike Crabtree for their share of timber sales revenue from Shawnee State Forest and Brush Creek State Forest, as a part of the Trees to Textbooks program.

Washington-Nile Local School District received $82,339.02 from the program. According to Treasurer, Sherry Patterson these funds will most likely be used to fund special projects and needs that the district sees, such as new buses, iPads, textbooks and other items.

“These revenues are an investment in the education and maintenance of our local communities,” said Robert Boyles, ODNR deputy director and state forester. “Well-managed public and private forests have far-reaching benefits for us all.”
