Busy weekend for wildfire-fighting crews
It was a long and busy weekend for firefighters battling wildfires across the US. With continued droughts, unexpected thunder and lightning storms and record temperatures, much of the US continues to experience rampant wildfires. In Arkansas, firefighters contained a blaze that burned about 115 acres in the southwestern part of the state, but continued to work toward controlling blazes in other areas. In Tennessee, personnel from USDA Forest Service, Tennessee Division of Forestry, and East and West Polk Volunteer Fire Departments worked to contain three wildfires in the Cherokee National Forest, Ocoee Ranger District. In South Dakota, firefighters battle the White Draw wildfire that started after a motor home caught on fire on Friday, June 29. The Oak Fire in California continued to keep firefighters busy and spurred further burn bans in an attempt to prevent more wildfires.
