Nebraska Forest Service (NFS) is seeking a highly motivated person to provide technical assistance and information to tree care professionals, landowners, homeowners, and local government agency personnel related to the emerald ash borer, thousand cankers disease of walnut and common insect pests and diseases of trees in Nebraska. Conduct workshops and seminars, write publications and newsletters and use other media to present information, diagnose tree pest problems and conduct tree pest surveys.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in entomology, plant pathology, horticulture, forestry or closely related field plus one year of experience and/or training with insect pests and their control required. Basic understanding of disease and insect pest biology and control. Effective verbal and written communication skills essential. Public speaking and presentation skills are necessary. Strong computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet programs required. Must be able to physically work outside and carry field equipment through forests. Valid driver’s license with the ability to meet UNL driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications: Two years of professional experience with the emerald ash borer, thousand cankers disease of walnut, common insect pests and diseases of trees in Nebraska preferred. Specialized knowledge of the biology and control of the emerald ash borer, thousand cankers disease of walnut and common insect pests and diseases of trees in Nebraska preferred. Ability to diagnose pest problems and conduct pest surveys preferred.
