Welcome
NASF is a non-profit organization that represents
the directors of all 50 State Forestry agencies, the eight U.S. territories (American Samoa,
the Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, the Northern Marianas Islands, Palau,
Puerto Rico, Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands), and
the District of Columbia. Through public-private partnerships, NASF seeks to
discuss, develop, sponsor and promote programs and activities which will advance
the practice of sustainable forestry, the conservation and protection of forest
lands and associated resources and the establishment and protection of forests
in the urban environment.
Forestry Issues
From the water you drink to the air
you breathe, forests affect everyone. NASF covers a broad spectrum of forestry issues including fire,
urban and community forestry and forest health. NASF also keeps track of the
legislative side of forestry, watching forestry-related bills in Congress and
informing the debate at congressional committee hearings.
Publications
NASF produces a variety of publications including position and
policy statements, resolutions and reports. NASF also writes letters to Congress
and provides testimony at congressional hearings. In addition, the NASF
Washington office distributes the Washington Weekly Report, an electronic informational
resource to keep State Foresters, their partners and others current on important
forestry issues.
Smokey Bear
One
of the most well-known symbols in the United States, Smokey Bear has championed
wildfire prevention for more than 60 years. With his immortal motto, "Only you can
prevent wildfires," Smokey Bear promotes personal responsibility for fire
safety. The Smokey Bear campaign represents the combined efforts of NASF, the USDA Forest Service and the Ad Council.
