Vermont forestry celebrates 100 years
The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation celebrated its first 100 years supporting
Vermonters in their stewardship of one of the state’s forestland on September 26. In 1909, Austin F. Hawes was appointed as Vermont’s first State Forester and the first state forest, L.R. Jones, was purchased in Plainfield, beginning the Division of Forestry.
