Trees lost to beetles will be used to heat homes
Posted on Friday, January 30, 2009The loss of trees in Worcester, MA, and surrounding communities because of Asian longhorned beetles may be an environmental tragedy, but the trees lost are not being wasted. The wood is not good for lumber because the risk of spreading the destructive beetles, but the bulk of the now junk trees will go to creating energy for the electric grid.
