RI state bill would fine illegal transport of wood to halt spread of beetle
Posted on Thursday, April 30, 2009Fear that the Asian longhorned beetle may spread to other New England states has led a Rhode Island legislator to introduce a state bill that would make it a crime to carry beetle-infested wood into the state and carry a fine of up to $25,000. Although the beetles move slowly on their own, they can hitchhike to other sites in wood carried by campers and tree companies.
