LEED Certified Wood Credit Revision: Comment Period closes 9/7/08
Posted on Thursday, August 28, 2008The U.S. Green Building Council, which oversees the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building standard, has released new draft language for the standard's "MR Credit 7: Certified Wood." A proposed revision will remove a reference to the Forest Stewardship Council certification system as the only system eligible to meet the standard and instead require that "a recognized forest certification system" comply with a "Forest Certification System Benchmark." A 30-day public comment period, which concludes September 7, seeks input on both the text of the "Certified Wood" standard and the Benchmark criteria. NASF will be submitting comments recommending wood as a preferred material and an inclusive approach to certification that recognizes wood sourced from SFI, FSC, and Tree Farm certified forests. To submit a comment to LEED, visit the USGBC here.
