Fire Suppression Funding Solutions Coalition meets in DC

NASF, The Wilderness Society and American Forests co-hosted the first meeting of the Fire Suppression Funding Solutions Coalition on January 12th. More than fifty organizations attended the meeting either in person or by phone. Representatives from USFS, DOI, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and the House Committee on Natural Resources presented information on the impacts of fire suppression funding on the agencies. The Coalition then discussed how to work together to promote a legislative solution to the fire suppression budgeting issue. Several representatives volunteered to craft a guiding document for the group to approve as a basis for working together as a Coalition. This coalition will work to promote legislative solutions, provide information and examples of impacts to congressional delegates and staff and use the Fire Suppression Spending Solutions list serv as an opportunity for document and idea sharing.
