Don't move firewood: not just in the northeast

Federal forest officials are asking San Diego County residents to avoid moving oak wood as part of their efforts to slow the spread of the gold-spotted oak borer. The tree-killing bug is a recently detected pest that invades California black oaks, coast live oaks and canyon live oaks in Southern California. It's believed to be responsible for the deaths of 17,000 trees in the county.
